Suomu is a small holiday village. The Hotel Suomutunturi has a restaurant that during seasons offer hotel style breakfast (also open to the public), as well as lunch and dinner and a bar. Dog Sleds & Reindeer Farms

Snowmobiles

Downhill skiing and gear / Snowboarding and gear
Suomutunturi, which the cabin is located right next to is the closest as its about 400m to the ski-lifts. You can either walk this distance or take the car to the parking lot.

The other ski-resorts (e.g. Ruka) also offers rental of gear.
Other ski-resorts nearby are Ruka, Salla and Pyhä.
Crosscountry skiing
There are several kilometers of crosscountry skiing tracks near the cabin. You can see a detailed map on Suomutunturis website or this direct link to the map.
Northern Lights
Northern lights are a natural phenomena and there are several websites showing the likelihood of their presence depending on your travel time. There are also smartphone apps available giving you a push-notification when present. https://aurorareach.com/places/fi/kemijarvi/times
When present, they are usually visible from the porch of the cabin, but for a better view especially for photography we recommend to visit areas with low light pollution and good visibility, such as Räisälä Lossi which has an ice road during the winter. Second place is Joutsenjänkä on the road named Peräojantie.
Aurora season in Lapland runs from late August to early April, and during the peak months of December to March guests staying a full week typically see northern lights on 3–4 nights though nature doesn't give guarantees. Even in October, November and April you still have good chances whenever the nights are clear. Only the summer months fall outside aurora season, as the midnight sun makes the sky too bright. Whenever the nights are dark.
Car rental
Rental car is the best and recommended way to get to, and stay, at the cabin.
Closest car rental is Kemijärvi (Juhan Auto, +358207434493, rent.kemijarvi@juhanauto.fi) and a carsharing/rental service named OmaGo in Kemijärvi.
Other car rentals may be found via google to the city you are traveling to.
The cabin is very accessible via road from both Kuusamo and Kemijärvi/Rovaniemi. The main roads are generally all year around in very good shape even during the mid-winter.
4x4 is not a requirement to get to the cabin, but in case of severe snow or storm may be of advantage.
All rental cars are always equipped with winter tires.
Currently there is no availability to charge eletric cars at the cabin.

The closest store is K-Kyläkauppa Kelloniemi (15km), google maps location here.
Larger stores and Alko (wine & spirits) is in Kemijärvi (45km / 40min).
Roadside assistance

There is a car-battery charger in the garage free to use.

The bus stops at Hotel Suomutunturi parking space which equals a roughly 400 meter walking distance to the cabin.
